The Basics of Playing ‘Omaha Poker’

In order to succeed in making a hand, one must use 2 hole cards along with 3 board cards. It is mandatory to show all the 4 cards during showdown in order to get the pot. The game’s main objective is having the five best card hand among the participating players, with the use of the 2 hole cards and the 3 community cards (board cards). The outcome is that, the player who has this combination of cards in possession wins the pot money. The rules stipulate that the players have to be given 4 pocket cards by the dealer, of which for the player to make the best hand, he has to use 2 hole cards and 3 community cards. Showdown follows after 4 Omaha poker betting rounds.

Of importance to note, pertaining the Omaha poker is that; the first betting occurs after 4 cards are allocated to each player by the dealer. Once the dealer burns one card and turns face-up 3 community cards, the second betting takes place. The third betting follows after the turn, in which the dealer on burning another card turns over another community card. The last betting takes place when the dealer, once more burns an additional card and the last community card is faced-up. The showdown step involves the players showing up their hands with the bettor first and hence the player having the best hand wins the pot. On the other hand, misdeals are applied if the first hole card dealt exposes results or if the dealer allocates more than one card to a player. A redeal is performed if a flop contains many cards.

In playing Omaha poker, all players are dealt with four faced down cards and three cards faced up. Two cards dealt faced up follow one at a time. The player who uses two of the hole cards and three of the community cards makes the best hand. In winning the Omaha poker, there are two ways, in one, at the table, only the best hand wins the pot.
